Looking into the past equips us with the knowledge to forge a better future, and our elected officials should heed this call. Florida lawmakers should immediately take the following actions: (1) eliminate court fees, (2) increase gain-time, which means shorter sentences for pursuing rehabilitation and education, and (3) allow for changes made to criminal statutes to be applied retroactively.
